OLBIA CHALLENGER, ENTRY LIST REVEALED
TABILO LEADS SEEDING, LANDALUCE DEFENDS TITLE
NEW COURT FOR TENNIS CLUB TERRANOVA
The third edition of the Olbia Challenger is fast approaching – The event, organized at the Terranova Tennis Club, is scheduled for October 12-19, while the usual preparations continue. Challenger 125, supported for the third consecutive year by Health Partner Mater Olbia, sees current ATP No. 72 Alejandro Tabilo head an entry list packed with interesting names, such as former Junior World No. 3 Nishesh Basavareddy and the experienced Pablo Carreno Busta (former World No. 10). Martin Landaluce is also expected to return to Sardinia: the former leader of the under-18 rankings lifted the first Challenger trophy of his career in Olbia, defeating Mattia Bellucci in the final, and is ready to defend his title as the reigning champion. A strong Italian presence awaits the wild cards: Francesco Maestrelli will be in the main draw. Like last year, the event will be available free-to-air on SuperTennis. The tournament’s press conference will be held on Thursday, October 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Terranova Tennis Club: the event will open with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new court.
Tabilo leads the entry list – The 2025 edition of the Olbia Challenger is once again expected to feature a very high level of competitors. The most decisive response could come from Alejandro Tabilo: the top seed is fresh off his victory at the ATP 250 in Chengdu, achieved in the final against Lorenzo Musetti, and is climbing the rankings with the goal of approaching his career-high ranking of 19th in the world. At ATP No. 72, Vit Kopriva, already capable of winning a Challenger in 2025 in Naples, answers in the lower half of the draw. Then there are Pablo Carreno Busta and Dusan Lajovic (former No. 10 and No. 23 in the world, respectively), who will ensure the perfect mix of experience and youth among the participants. The green lineup in Sardinia can count on Martin Landaluce and Nishesh Basavareddy as its main representatives. The 2006-born Madrid native won the first Challenger of his career in Olbia and is constantly chasing a Top 100 ranking; The latter, born in 2005 and ranked No. 107 ATP, will be on the Terranova Tennis Club courts to return as soon as possible after reaching No. 99 in June. Christopher Eubanks’ presence in the main draw is also intriguing: the American, a former No. 29 ATP player, reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2023 and is attempting to climb the rankings. Italy will also be represented, with Francesco Maestrelli, who already had an encouraging 2025 season with three finals on the ATP circuit.
The best wishes of Mayor Settimo Nizzi and Councilor Elena Casu – Much of the organization of the event is supported by the Municipality of Olbia and the Region of Sardinia. “It is with great pride that the city welcomes the third edition of the Olbia Challenger,” said Mayor Settimo Nizzi, “a well-established event on the international sports scene. This tournament is not only an opportunity to celebrate talent and competition, but also to enhance our city as a place of encounter, culture, and sporting passion. I wish all the athletes, organizers, and spectators intense and exciting days.” The Mayor’s words were echoed by those of Sports Councilor Elena Casu: “Sport is energy, commitment, and sharing. This event represents all this and much more: it is a showcase for high-level tennis and an opportunity to introduce citizens, especially the younger ones, to the values of sport. We are happy to see Olbia as the protagonist of an event that unites competition and community. Happy tournament everyone!”
The Terranova Tennis Club reopens its doors – Since the conclusion of last year’s event, the Terranova Tennis Club has been working diligently on the improvements needed for 2025: “We are delighted to host a Challenger tournament here again,” said club president Giuseppe Bianco. “It’s an honor and a great pleasure for us to welcome today’s top sports professionals. This year, we will have a fourth greenset court, a project that allows us to better accommodate players and further enhances the club’s facilities. Thanks for this go to the Municipality of Olbia, which has enabled us to make this leap in quality. I also thank the Region of Sardinia, and I would also like to emphasize the importance of the support of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, as well as that of the sponsors who have believed in this event from the very beginning and the new ones who have joined for this edition. All of this demonstrates that the Olbia Challenger is becoming part of the local economy and beyond, being perceived as an event of undeniable value. I am confident that this third edition will once again meet the expectations of TV viewers and visitors, many who come to the club will not be disappointed.”
